Grades have been updated in the “Grades” link on the main menu. Please report any inconsistencies you may find so that I can correct them as soon as possible. Tomorrow we will be going over the tests and continuing with the regular schedule.
The FAAST (FAA Safety Team) will be sponsoring a seminar at Southern Illinois Airport on Saturday, February 13, 2010. The seminar will begin at 10am and be held in the Airport Main Terminal (upstairs). The topic of the seminar is ATC – “How Can We Help You?”. Those attending from my AF211 class will get 10 points of extra credit. They must stay for the entire seminar and sign in with the AF211 instructor.
This week we will start our discussion with an Intro to weather theory. The lesson will consist mostly of a general overview of how weather on the Earth happens. Remember that this class deals mostly with northern hemisphere weather. For an interesting take on southern hemisphere weather click here.
Thursday’s discussion will consist of a talk about Air Circulation. In other words, what causes wind. Wind is a major contributor to most of the weather on the earth.
PS- does anyone know when Hurricane season begins? ends? I bet you will be surprised to find out.
Before every class I like talk about what is going on in the world of Aviation! Bring in whatever tidbits you may find (from reputable sources) that qualify as “News”. We will spend the first 15 minutes of every class talking about the news that you have brought to share. News can be from just about an source and about any topic. GA news is especially welcome, but anything goes. Just so long as it’s about aviation!
Hello Class… For those of you who were proactive yesterday, sorry this wasn’t posted. I had a glitch on the website that would not allow me to edit it. Obviously that is now fixed.
Please do the following (it is worth 5 points of extra credit):
-Click on the GRADES link in the menu above. When you get the page enter the following password: METAR
-On the page you will see a word. Write this word down on a piece of paper and bring it to class on thursday. Make sure to write your name on the piece of paper so that I can give you the credit.
-Keep this quiet. This is an exercise in following directions. Please don’t share the extra credit word with anyone. Let them come to the website and figure it out themselves! See you in class on Thursday!!
